Larry Lam's Guide Note
KUALA LUMPUR

MALAYAN RAILWAY ADMINSTRATION BUILDING

This building readily complements the KL Railway Station located directly across the street and is linked to the station by an underground thoroughfare. It houses the administrative head office of the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (Malayan Railway).

It was designed by Authur Benison Hubback in 1913, based on a typical formal Renaissance plan form. Its construction was delayed by World War One and was completed in November 1917.

The building with its tall and wide verandahs skirting the building, is well adapted to the tropical climate . The rhythmic arched colonnades wrapping the verandahs give the building on its facade an interesting shadow interplay. 5 domes sit majestically atop the building, each surrounded by 4 spiral columns of orthodox Greek design.
